As you know I love new words. I hope PERIPETY is one for you, as it was for me a few years ago. Pronounced puh-RIP-uh-tee, it means a sudden reversal of fortune or change in circumstances, a 180-degree turn of a situation. Hope you enjoy my little poem to illustrate!
A surprise consequence of events or lifestyle is peripety
And the event can be over-the-top felicity
Or down-in-the-dumps calamity.
Like in the Book of Esther, evil Haman, though immoral,
expected fame and status of celebrity
While Mordecai, a minor official and Jew
assumed extraordinary humility.
However, God and justice prevailed,
so Haman was rightly impaled
But Mordecai was hailed and unveiled
for his piety and crucial veracity.
When Israelites fled the Egyptians,
and faced a raging Red Sea--
and their mortality,
They didn’t know God in His power
could roll back that briny deep
with His divine capability.
Jesus rightfully claimed to be
the long-awaited Messiah,
human veracity
But when He surrendered His life
and was laid in a borrowed tomb,
some suspected dishonesty.
Mary Magdalene sought her deceased friend
but found an empty grave,
a probable catastrophe.
Only to learn Jesus had indeed risen, was alive,
and who He claimed to be—
fully man and fully Deity.
Man’s salvation appears to be
impossible because of
his lack of ability
So Jesus paid the cost of all
sins to fully cover
man’s depravity
And live with His redeemed
for eternity.
Amen and Hallelujah for God’s plan of
salvation by faith, not works,
for that is love, mercy, and grace in rhapsody.
It’s just like God to give us this
in a glorious gift of peripety!
